As a College Consultant, Sam has worked with hundreds of students to help them gain admission to a wide variety of colleges – from Stanford to Southern Methodist, from the University of Washington to Washington University Saint Louis, from Portland to Purdue, from the University of British Columbia to UC Davis, from Colorado to Cornell.
A graduate of both Stanford University (BA, Public Policy 1997 and MA, Education 2008) and the University of Notre Dame (MBA 2004), Sam has extensive experience with all aspects of the admissions process. While at Notre Dame, he served on the Graduate School of Business Admissions Committee. He is a member of the Western Association for College Admissions Counseling (WACAC) and the National Association of College Admissions Counseling (NACAC). Additionally, he has visited countless college campuses throughout the country, and remains committed to visiting many more each year.
Sam opened Stapleton Educational Consulting in 2008 after training as a College Consultant with Barbara Reis, a successful Independent College Counselor with fifteen years of experience working with local high school students. Under Barbara’s tutelage, Sam developed the firm belief that the admissions process is truly a personal and individual experience. For more than a decade, Sam has upheld this principle throughout his practice.
Sam was born and raised in San Jose, attended St. Francis High School in Mountain View, and was a Resident Assistant, a member of the Phi Kappa Psi fraternity, and the student manager of the varsity baseball team while an undergraduate at Stanford. He lives in Los Gatos with his wife Jill, his son Andrew, and his daughter Grace.
